We just wrapped up an incredible two days at the Velammal Institute of Technology, Chennai, and the energy in the room was nothing short of inspiring. Organized by the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science on February 4th and 5th, this wasn’t just another lecture—it was a deep dive into the fast-paced world of UI/UX design.

Real Tools, Real Skills

Led by industry expert Mr. Rajkumar Sreenivasan, the workshop skipped the fluff and went straight to the heart of modern product design. We wanted students to walk away not just knowing about design, but knowing how to do it.

The focus was on getting hands-on with the workflows that drive today’s tech industry:

• UI Fundamentals: Learning the visual language of digital products.
• The UX Mindset: Shifting focus from “how it looks” to “how it works for the user.”
• Rapid Prototyping: Bringing ideas to life through interactive wireframes.
• Collaborative Workflows: Mastering the art of designing in a team environment.

More Than Just a Classroom Exercise

Over the course of 48 hours, these students experienced the full lifecycle of a digital product. They didn’t just move elements around a screen; they:

1. Analyzed real human needs.
2. Sketched out rough concepts.
3. Navigated professional design software.
4. Presented functional UI screens that solved actual problems.

It was amazing to watch that “click” moment happen—when a student realizes that design is a powerful bridge between code and the person using the app.
